Twin Block Appliance UK

A twin block is a removable functional appliance used mainly in growing patients to help correct Class II jaw relationships.

How a twin block works

Twin blocks posture the lower jaw forward while the patient is still growing. The aim is to improve the jaw relationship and reduce overjet before fixed braces or aligners finish tooth alignment.

Wear time and compliance

The appliance only works if worn as instructed, often close to full time apart from cleaning and some meals. Missed wear slows progress and can prevent correction.

Eating, speech, and school

Speech and saliva usually adapt over one to two weeks. Some patients are asked to eat with the appliance in; others remove it for meals. Follow the practice instructions because designs differ.

Twin block vs Invisalign MA

Both use mandibular advancement concepts, but twin blocks are removable acrylic appliances while Invisalign MA uses aligner wings. Suitability depends on growth, bite, compliance, and clinical goals.
