Is it normal to disagree with an orthodontic treatment plan?
It is not unusual for two orthodontists to recommend different approaches for the same patient — particularly on borderline decisions such as whether to extract teeth, which appliance to use, or whether treatment is needed at all. This reflects genuine clinical variation in orthodontic treatment planning. If you receive two significantly different opinions on a major decision, ask each orthodontist to explain specifically why they have reached their recommendation. The quality and completeness of the explanation — not just the conclusion — is often the most useful thing to compare.
