Orthodontists Starting With 'P'

Use the alphabetical index on this page to jump to towns and cities beginning with your letter, or switch to the county browser if you would rather search by area. Each location page sets out the appliance options commonly available there — metal and ceramic fixed braces, clear aligners, lingual braces, and retainers — alongside indicative UK pricing and links to nearby towns. Before booking with any practice, check the clinician on the General Dental Council register at gdc-uk.org: everyone practising dentistry in the UK must be listed, and specialist orthodontists appear on a separate specialist list.

Yes — you can get clinician-reviewed quote guidance without visiting a practice first. You take five guided photos on a phone at home: a front bite view, both side views, and close-ups of the upper and lower arches. A GDC-registered UK clinician reviews them and comes back with the braces or clear aligner options that look appropriate for your case, plus an indicative price range. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It is not a diagnosis — any practice you go on to see will take its own records, scans, and X-rays — but it tells you what to expect before paying for a consultation.

No referral is needed for private orthodontic treatment in the UK — you can approach an orthodontic practice directly and book a consultation yourself. A referral is only required for the NHS route, where your general dentist assesses the case and refers you on to an NHS orthodontic practice or hospital department, and that route is restricted to under-18s who meet the IOTN threshold. For private treatment you are free to shop around and get more than one opinion. Starting with a remote photo assessment gives you a clinician's view of your options before you commit to any paid appointment.

Most people finish the guided photo upload in around five minutes. The tool prompts you through five shots — a front bite view, right and left side views, and close-ups of the upper and lower arches — showing an example of each before you take it. A GDC-registered clinician then reviews the case and returns treatment options with indicative pricing. The single biggest time saver is getting the lighting right first: face a window rather than standing with your back to one, and tap the screen to focus on your teeth. A clear first attempt avoids being asked to retake shots.

Private orthodontic treatment in the UK typically costs between £1,500 and £5,500, with clear aligners generally falling between £1,500 and £5,500. What moves a case up or down that range is mostly the amount of tooth movement required: a short case straightening mild front-tooth crowding sits at the bottom, while full upper and lower fixed braces correcting a bite over 18 to 24 months sits near the top. Where you are treated matters as well, with central London consistently higher than the rest of the country. NHS treatment is free for eligible under-18s. Check whether retainers and post-treatment reviews are included in any quoted figure.

NHS orthodontic treatment is free for under-18s in the UK who meet the clinical threshold, and is essentially unavailable to adults. Eligibility is scored using the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need: you need a Dental Health Component of 4 or 5, or a score of 3 combined with an Aesthetic Component of 6 or above. The route in is a referral from your general dentist to an NHS orthodontic practice or hospital department, where an orthodontist examines you and scores the case. Waiting lists vary considerably by area. Adults, and under-18s scoring below the threshold, need private treatment instead.
