Professional teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments there is. Patients across Upper Elmers End choose it because the shade lift is calibrated to their teeth and sensitivity. Some patients whiten in one appointment; others prefer the slower, gentler take-home route.
Sensitivity, Aftercare and Keeping Results
Some patients feel sensitivity during whitening, particularly in-chair. Using a potassium-nitrate or stannous-fluoride toothpaste for one to two weeks before treatment cuts this significantly, and a desensitising gel can be used between sessions.
A brief 'white diet' — skipping strongly coloured food and drink for two days — protects the fresh result. Long-term, good hygiene and an occasional top-up every 12–18 months keep teeth bright.
Understanding Tooth Shade — The VITA Scale
Dental professionals in Upper Elmers End use the VITA classical shade guide to record tooth colour, running from A1 (lightest) to C4 (darkest). Most natural teeth sit between A2 and B3, and professional whitening typically lifts 4–8 grades.
Response depends on the cause of the staining — surface and yellow discolouration whiten well, developmental and grey staining resist it, and any crowns or composite won't shift, so mismatches are worth discussing first.
