Professional teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments there is. In Thurdon it is a common request, and results go well beyond what a supermarket kit can manage. Some patients whiten in one appointment; others prefer the slower, gentler take-home route.
Professional Whitening Choices in Thurdon
In-chair (laser/light-activated) whitening happens in a single visit: a strong hydrogen-peroxide gel is light-activated for immediate change, usually lifting the shade several grades in one sitting.
Take-home tray whitening uses custom trays and professional-strength gel worn daily (30 minutes to overnight) over 2–4 weeks. It builds a gradual result with less sensitivity than in-chair treatment.
Combined whitening pairs a fast in-chair kick-start with trays for maintenance — a popular route in Thurdon for people who want quick results that last.
Over-the-counter kits are the weakest option by a wide margin — useful only for very minor upkeep, never for a real shade improvement.
Understanding Tooth Shade — The VITA Scale
The VITA guide gives whitening an objective before-and-after in Thurdon: most teeth start near A2–B3, and a course commonly achieves a 4–8 shade improvement.
Not all teeth respond equally. Intrinsic staining from tetracycline or fluorosis whitens poorly, yellow tones respond best, and grey tones least. Crowns, veneers and fillings don't change colour at all, which can create mismatches to plan around.
