Professional teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments there is. In Thainstone it is a common request, and results go well beyond what a supermarket kit can manage. The timescale ranges from a single 90-minute visit to a fortnight of overnight tray wear.
Understanding Tooth Shade — The VITA Scale
Colour is tracked on the VITA scale — A1 at the light end through to C4 at the dark. Untreated teeth usually fall around A2–B3 in Thainstone patients, with whitening moving them several grades lighter.
Not all teeth respond equally. Intrinsic staining from tetracycline or fluorosis whitens poorly, yellow tones respond best, and grey tones least. Crowns, veneers and fillings don't change colour at all, which can create mismatches to plan around.
Sensitivity, Aftercare and Keeping Results
Sensitivity is the most common side effect — usually a sharp, transient twinge with air or cold that settles within 24–48 hours. A sensitivity toothpaste used for two weeks beforehand noticeably reduces it.
Whitened enamel re-stains fastest in the first couple of days, so ease off coffee, tea and red wine. With sensible maintenance the shade holds for one to two years before a quick refresh.
